Sustainability Policy

In line with the relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals, Uproar Theatre is committed to not only Environmental but also Social Sustainability.

The UN Sustainability Goals which are relevant to our practice are:

3. Good Health and Wellbeing (for our team and visiting artists)

We will, to the best of our ability, schedule events and rehearsals with significant notice, to avoid additional stress being placed on our cast and crew.

We will listen and respond to concerns that can be resolved within the company, and support the right to speak to an external, professional body.

We will conduct a review of situation handling, to continually update, reflect on and improve our approach.

5. Gender Equality (equal opportunities for creatives, casting and crew)

We will set annual targets for the inclusivity of our Creative team and review and adapt these targets.

Unless specified in the script, we pledge to consciously consider a diverse cohort of actors, for each and every role.

10. Reduced inequalities

In line with our Access Policy, we will ensure that the venues we work with are wheelchair accessible, subtitle all video content on the website and our social media and provide relaxed performances, BSL interpreted/Captions and Audio Description whenever possible.

We will provide a tiered ticket system to improve affordability for audiences.

We will gather Equal Opportunities data from both audiences and creatives to continuously develop and diversify our provision, and work with organisations and individuals to consistently better our practice, encouraging conversation and action.

13. Climate Action

We will avoid printing wherever possible, encouraging email submissions and utilising social media in our marketing campaigns.

Wherever possible, we will use local cast and crew to reduce the need for travel.

16. Peace, justice and strong institutions

We will listen to, engage with and resolve issues within the company, seeking guidance from outside organisations when necessary.

We will endeavour to provide a supportive working environment for all members of the creative team.

We will engage with feedback from our audiences and creatives, and use this feedback to inform our ongoing practice.

Through our developing work, we also hope to achieve:

4. Quality Education

8. Decent Work and Economic Growth

11. Sustainable cities and communities

We will do this by providing opportunities and access to schools through curriculum-based workshops, creating and running workshops for developing creatives in the East of England, and providing employment opportunities for local creatives and crew, paying ITC rates for work.
